LALESSO – #10year10stories

LALESSO – #10year10stories

Local fashion brand, Lalesso, recently celebrated their tenth birthday at GUILD in the Silo District in Cape Town. As part of the celebration, they launched their #10year10stories collaborative collection, which features ten products with ten brands. Lalesso’s theme of sustainability, Africa and summer remains central in each of the collaboration designs. And the products reflect both brands’ identity while honouring Lalesso’s ten-year journey. At this occasion Lalesso also launched a refreshed brand.

ABOUT LALESSO

Co-founders, Alice and Olivia met whilst studying Fashion Design in Cape Town. Alice, a South African, and Olivia from Kenya, were inspired to start Lalesso after traveling to the remote Island of Lamu in the North of Kenya where the coastal Swahili women wear the colourful khanga cloth.

We love this brand for it’s originality, African spirit and sustainable approach. One can always spot a Lalesso garment in a crowd, they design and create their own unique fabrics that are digitally printed on natural or recycled fabrics. Digital printing requires a lot less water than other printing methods and results in very little waste.  They only utilise the services of garment factories that have safe working environments, are pleasant and accommodate the needs of the workers. All their clothing and swimwear is 100% African made.

#10YEARS10STORIES

Lalesso chose ten African brands to collaborate with, which resulted in ten limited edition products:

Lalesso x Dear Rae

Local jewellery brand Dear Rae, creates beautiful, feminine pieces and custom-made designs.

The Lalesso x Dear Rae collaboration piece looks at symbolisms of the numeral ten. The parallel lines in the pair of brass bangles are the Mayan symbol for ten. One of the brass bangles has ten notches on it whilst the other is a hammered texture, combining the pattern and texture rich nature of Lalesso print design. The bangles come with a small ceramic dish.
